We offer collection and drop-off services for real Christmas trees.

You can help to keep our streets clean by reporting any dumped trees you see.

Collections

Christmas tree recycling collections will start from Monday 5 January 2026 and will run until Friday 16 January. Trees will be collected on the garden waste collection day for your street. You can check your collection day on My Richmond.

This service is free and you do not require a garden waste contract to have your tree collected and recycled.

Trees should be left out after 8pm on the day before the collection is due, and by 6am on the collection day.

Where to leave your tree

All trees must be presented in a front garden visible from the pavement (if you have one) or on the pavement by your entrance.

Please ensure you do not cause an obstruction by only putting your tree out on your collection day.

What we can't collect

Trees are sent for composting, so we will not collect your tree if it is:

  • Plastic or not real
  • Still decorated
  • In soil, or with excessive soil attached
  • In a pot or stand
  • Over 6ft - please cut it into smaller pieces

If you live in a flat

If you live in a block of flats, you can take your Christmas tree to a drop-off point.

If this is not possible, we will collect trees left where they are visible from the road. If there are a number of trees please create a pile taking care not to cause an obstruction.

Missed collections

If your tree wasn't collected as expected, you will be able to report a missed Christmas tree collection.

We will aim to collect your tree within two working days.

You will also be able to take your tree to a drop-off point between Friday 26 December 2025 and Saturday 31 January 2026.
