Richmond libraries nominated for Library of the Year Award
16 March 2026
Richmond libraries were named as one of nine London finalists for the competitive Library of the Year category at the 2026 British Book Awards.
The recognition highlights our libraries’ innovative approach to community engagement and our commitment to widening access to reading and cultural experiences.
The recognition includes our new initiatives introduced last year through Richmond Reads, including:
- Inspiring reading challenges for all ages
- A new partnership with The Crick Crack Club
- Bringing world-class storytelling into library spaces
- Opening libraries on closed days to host special locally connected events
Last year’s Richmond Reads attracted many new audiences, with 53% of attendees attending a library event for the first time. This flagship annual celebration of storytelling was designed to inspire, connect, and engage our diverse communities. From bestselling authors to true stories, live performances to creative workshops, and digital read-along that offer a simple and welcoming way to join from home.
