Richmond students celebrate GCSE success as borough ranks second in England
20 August 2026
Congratulations to the borough's students who have opened their GCSE results today, kickstarting a new, exciting chapter in their lives.
Richmond has been ranked the second best-performing local authority in England for GCSE results, with 43.4% of entries awarded grade 7 or above, up from 43.2% in 2025, according to data published by Ofqual.
We also recognise and congratulate students receiving vocational and technical qualifications today, including V Certs, BTEC Tech Awards and City & Guilds results.
Councillor Julia Cambridge, Chair of Education and Children’s Services Committee, said: “Congratulations to all the students who received their exam results today. Their resilience and hard work over the past few years have paid off, and these results reflect the dedication of our young people, their teachers and their families.
"I am particularly delighted that Richmond's students have achieved some of the best GCSE results in the country. This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work, ambition and determination of our young people, alongside the commitment of school staff, parents and carers who support them every step of the way.
"Every student should be proud of what they have achieved and look ahead with confidence to the next stage of their journey. Regardless of the results, support remains available for every student in the borough as they decide on their next steps, whether that is further education, an apprenticeship or a training programme.”
We remain committed to supporting students as they plan for the future. For students who did not receive the grades they hoped for, Richmond Council, through Achieving for Children, offers impartial advice and guidance via the Summer Support helpline on 07864 612857. Any young person feeling stressed or anxious about their results can access free, safe and anonymous online support through Kooth.
